We answer the call for Le Tour
Leeds City Council briefed us to create individual makeovers for four phone boxes in City Square, Leeds, to celebrate the Tour de France 2014 starting in the city. The four unique designs celebrate cycling, making use of the colours associated with four of the iconic Tour de France jerseys and what each of them stands for.
There’s a polka-dot design representing the hill climb, a yellow box for the overall leader, a green box for the sprint, and white for the young riders. In addition, each phone box has a map of a local cycle route relating to each of these, which can be downloaded via a QR code to support the ‘Cycling Starts Here’ initiative.
The striking designs will provide an interesting backdrop for much of the media coverage of the Tour de France 2014 event. We used meticulous preparation and installation of paint and vinyl graphics to create eye-catching art works, which will be seen by thousands of visitors and live on in Leeds long after the Tour is over.
